Map Visualisations

This guide walks you through adding a map visualisation to your project dashboard and drawing polygons to assign data to specific buildings. Use it alongside the video as a step-by-step reference.

Before you start

  • Your Level 2 Workplace Project from Lesson 5 must be set up
  • Your Academy Level 2 Site Plan map from Lesson 4 must be saved in your account

1. Adding a Map Card to Your Dashboard

You will add the map visualisation to the Actual Space dashboard inside your project.

  1. From the homepage, navigate to your Level 2 Workplace Project.
  2. Open the Actual Space dashboard.
  3. Create a new card. Name it Map.

Configuring the card

  1. Hover over the card and click the three dots to open the edit menu.
  2. Set the size to Large so the map has enough room to display clearly.
  3. Give the card a display name — for example, Site Plan.
  4. Set the data type to Single Value.
  5. Under scenario, select your Move 2030 layer stack.
  6. Set the focus node to Building. This must match the property you linked your map to in Lesson 4.
  7. Set the function to Headcount. This is the value that will be displayed on the map for each building.
  8. Set the visualisation type to Bubble.
  9. Select the site plan map you uploaded in Lesson 4.
  10. Save the card.

Your map card is now added to the dashboard. The site plan image will be visible, but no data is overlaid yet because the buildings have not been mapped to polygons.

2. Drawing Building Polygons

To display data on the map, you need to draw polygons that define where each building sits on the site plan image. Each polygon is then assigned to a building in your data.

  1. Click the card name to open the map in full view.
  2. Click the Edit button.
  3. Click the plus button to start drawing a polygon.
  4. Roughly trace the outline of the first building on the site plan.
  5. Assign the polygon to a building. Select Building B from the property list.
  6. Click Save. The headcount for Building B will now appear on the polygon.

Repeat for the second building:

  1. Click the plus button again and draw a polygon for the second building.
  2. Assign it to Building C and save.

Both buildings are now mapped. You can go back to the dashboard to see the finished map card with headcount displayed for each building.

Note: If you have pre-drawn spatial data, you can upload it as an overlay SVG in the map settings instead of drawing polygons manually. See Lesson 4 for details on overlays.

3. Summary

  • Added a map card to the Actual Space dashboard
  • Configured the card with the correct layer stack, focus node, function, and visualisation type
  • Drew polygons on the site plan to define Building B and Building C
  • Assigned each polygon to its matching building property value
  • Viewed headcount data displayed on the map for each building
