Workspace and Accounts
This guide walks you through the spaciv workspace and explains how accounts and projects are structured. Use it alongside the video and slides as a reference you can come back to.
1. The spaciv Workspace
The spaciv workspace is where all your data and models live. Everything is organised into two main parts, both visible in the sidebar:
- Accounts — at the top of the sidebar. This is where your data lives.
- Projects — at the bottom of the sidebar. This is where your analysis and results live.
The relationship between them is straightforward: accounts contain data, and projects use that data to produce insights. You can have multiple projects inside the same account, all drawing from the same underlying data.
2. Accounts
Your account is the foundation of everything in spaciv. Before you can build projects, your data needs to be set up here first.
What lives in your account
- Your imported data — object layers, properties, and modification layers
- spaciv system presets — benchmark data, space modules, and standard layer stacks that come built into the platform
- Account-level settings — your organisation name, logo, and user management
How to access your account
- Look at the top section of the left sidebar — this is your account area.
- Click Switch Account to see all the accounts you belong to. Select the one you want to work in.
- Alternatively, click your user icon at the top right, then select Accounts.
- To enter your account settings, click the settings icon next to your account name. Here you can update your account name, upload your organisation’s logo, and manage other details.
Note: If you only belong to one account, you will only see that one in the list.
3. Projects
Projects are where your actual analysis happens. Each project is built on the data in your account and is focused on a specific planning question or scenario.
What lives in a project
- Dashboards and visualisations
- Scenario outputs based on your layer stacks
- Maps and space programme results
How to access your projects
- Look at the bottom section of the left sidebar — this is your projects area.
- Click View All Projects to see every project inside your current account.
- Click a project name to open it. You will see all the dashboards and visuals connected to that project.
- To create a new project, click Add Project from the homepage.
4. Accounts vs. Projects — Key Differences
Understanding the distinction between accounts and projects is important. Here is a quick reference:
- Account — where data is stored and managed. Changes here affect all projects that use that data.
- Project — where results are produced. Projects read from account data but do not change it.
- Multiple projects, one account — you can run several projects from the same account, each with different layer stacks, scenarios, or time horizons.
Note: Always set up your account data before starting a project. The quality of your project outputs depends on the quality of your account data.
5. Quick Reference — Where to Find Things
In your account (top of sidebar)
- Properties
- Object layers
- Modification layers
- Layer stacks
- Maps
- Space rules
In your project (bottom of sidebar)
- Dashboards
- Visualisations
- Space programme results
- Scenario comparisons
What’s Next
In Lesson 2, we’ll go deeper into how spaciv logic works — specifically how objects, properties, and layers are structured, and how they work together to power your projects.
